Biden takes charge, will reportedly run again in 2024
USA rejoins Paris Climate Accord
I’ve done my fair share of criticizing the old man, so let’s give him his props.
He ran for office twice before and lost, each in devastatingly impotent fashion. His campaign was described as dead as he listlessly drifted through the early primary. He took the most defensive position possible in troubled times.
And for all of it… he’s the Leader of the Free World.
Joe Biden in the 46th President of the United States of America. A remarkable political journey capped off by pomp and circumstance. And JLo.
His speech was fine. But if he truly seeks bi-partisan cohesion he will have to do it with actions. Or not. He can just try to run over his enemies because it’s the Blue Drivers turn behind the wheel. We shall see.

I hope that in about a year those who are fearful of a Democratic Socialist/Communist regime will notice that it's not happening.
We are not who you think we are. - GARY
Depends on who you think they think you are.

If Trump successfully starts up the Patriot Party, it will spell the end of itself, and the GOP. Neither will be around in 10 years if the PP has candidates running for office next year. - DB
The Patriot Party will fail if started. Third parties need to be really competently run, invent not only in popular issues of the day but at least one superstar candidate AND THEN have a second (if not third) wave of capable candidates to solidify. Even if they got part of the way through that the GOP would just adjust their flank to take the cream of the crop.

There were some ugly 11th hour pardons in there. All these personal enrichment people are gross. I am all for not putting low-level drug convictions in jail because it is a bad deterrent. What does white-collar criminal justice reform look like? Maybe it is putting more people in jail because the deterrents of penalties against companies don't seem to be working these days. - SEAN W
White collar criminals enjoying pardons is the “dog bites man” of presidential pardons. Always gross.

I'm with the comments about how the police should not be beating peaceful protesters and shooting unarmed citizens. With him 100% there. Gotta depart on the bizarre insistence that "defund the police" doesn't actually mean defund the police because it actually means this or that or put more money in different places so the police can blah blah.... no, the slogan is "defund the police". If you don't want to do that, get a better slogan.
Same with "abolish ICE". In general, the left really seems to enjoy picking slogans that sound way more extreme than the policies they're actually advocating for are. It's a terrible strategy and one of the main reasons I always say "the left is just bad at politics". - MATT

If the point of politics is get a person to go into a booth on a certain date and push a certain button for a certain candidate, then the proper corollary is that the point of an election is to determine who outnumbers who.
The final word on the Trump administration may simply be that Trump supporters NEVER outnumbered everyone else. At best, they were spread across the country in ways that could be taken advantage of. But in terms of raw numbers, they are a minority that thinks it’s a majority. - MISTER TONE
It was always a tricky proposition. They had JUST enough of the right people in JUST the right places to make it work. Sans COVID tho, I wonder what he would have looked like. The world will never know…

I got this graph from the BBC
There seems to be a clear pattern with the steady decline of pardons over the years. I wonder if HW Bush's are so low because he would have had a lot of mutual friends with the Regan administration. Maybe the blue-collar criminals who are friends with the Democrats build-up under Nixon and Ford, so there's a slight uptick when Carters in etc.
Then Obama seemed to buck the trend with commutations for all. I looked it up, seems to be a lot of sentence reductions for drug-related felonies.
Not sure what to make of it, just thought it was interesting. - KEN

That Disney movie sounds entertaining. Not sure why it isn’t on Disney Plus. Might have to pay the $3.99 to watch it. - RICHARD
