Trump Talks 100 Days. Elise Stefanik for NY Gov? Conclave Fever!

Trump’s Interview, Tariffs, and the Quiet Blink from China

Donald Trump went on Meet the Press this weekend and said, as you probably expect at this point, a lot. He started by touting an 87% drop in egg prices that had arrived in the US by Easter. Now, that’s not wrong if you're looking at wholesale costs, which are down significantly. But retail prices — the ones consumers actually see at the store — haven’t caught up yet. So we’re left with a familiar Trump pattern: tout a win before the reality has caught up to the message. Maybe it’ll land with voters, maybe it won’t. But what’s more interesting is what he didn’t say outright about tariffs.

Trump wants to act like the disruption from his trade war with China is simple — winning vs. losing. But in the real world, it’s anything but. Retailers are in limbo, small businesses don’t know whether to pull manufacturing from China, and the administration hasn’t offered any kind of clear relief or timeline. But behind the bluster, something did shift.
