There will be no Patriot Party.
There was never going to be a Patriot Party.
Donald Trump does not organize. He can’t keep people in his own orbit and even when his legacy depended on it he had a habit of shredding those depending on him. The idea that Trump cared about politics so much that he would start a third party was always laughable.
He is not Ross Perot.
Ross Perot was a businessman who understood systems. His platform was moored in bedrock small-government fiscal responsibility thinking with a pinch of “but we can go with whatever works best!” thrown in.
If you were inspired by Perot’s candidacy, it’s pretty simple to emulate his philosophy.
Perot starting the Reform Party made sense. His example even attracted some colorful characters.
Trump’s America First populism is as solid as the day’s Trending Topics.
He’s tough on China… but is willing to make a deal with them.
He’s tough on the Democrats… but desperately wants to negotiate.
He’s openly supportive of LGBTQ… but bans transgender military service.
Agree or disagree with either side of these issues but it’s hard to pin down what “The Trump Way” to run for office is. And without that? You don’t have a party.

A friend shared a social media post by Robert Reich calling for Democrats to abolish the filibuster in the Senate. Your link to the Newsday piece about Sanders and Warren threatening to use the 51-50 majority "aggressively" reminded me of that. Did they not see how the 8 years of allowing Obama to seize more power in the executive branch set the stage for the last 4 years? I know Biden called for unity (by telling the other side to not be crazy, but we'll ignore that part for now), so how is it that the Democrats are engaging in precisely the winner-takes-all politics that have gotten us to this point? Do they really believe their majority is permanent, or are they just trying to get while the getting is good, consequences be damned?
Now seems like the best opportunity we've had this century to restore some moderation. Why can't we just reset after two decades of increasing partisanship? - J. D.
To Biden’s credit he’s remained opposed to removing the filibuster. What the Dems are likely going to attempt is “reconciliation” which is a more involved process but only requires a 51 vote margin.
