VACCINE APPROVED
FDA green light means vaccinations for COVID will likely start next week
NEW YORK TIMES
It really should be studied what an achievement of money and science getting these vaccines past the finish line is. Now we begin to see how we handle the logistical hurdle of distributing them.

JFC. How much clearer can Facebook, YT, Twitter, etc etc scream “We are not platforms anymore, we are publishers.” It’s almost as if they fkn want a federal government to bend them over the barrel. - SCALE

Thanks for your commentary on Scale's post. My SO is in line to get her vaccine by next Friday because even in hospitals they are giving them out based on risk and since she is young, she is towards the end of the line. It is just a few days after the first recipients. I can't figure out a way to get her to sneak out a dose for me though. Maybe I should apply for a 3rd shift janitorial position, all of the support staff is on the list to get vaccinated. - SEAN
I’d mop some really, really gross stuff for a vaccine.

About the vaccine issue, I understand that people are nervous about unknown side effects, It is a legit concern, but in my experience with the FDA they are not going to let anything rush through. Most drugs take years to develop because the 14,000 FDA employees have to sort through and approve or deny what I am sure is hundreds of thousands of requests per year. I work in a hospital lab and the number one thing I hear from vendors is that “we’ll have x product soon, we’re just waiting for FDA approval before we can sell it”. This process usually takes years, and if a company wants to add a particle that eliminates interference from some drug, yep FDA approval and years waiting for approval. I’m sure that we are seeing record fast development of vaccines is due to the fact that they prioritized anything with COVID in front of it. Think about all of those fancy tests that only take 15 minutes to run. Do you think something like that would be acceptable without being prioritized? I plan on getting the vaccine myself, I am going to read the FDA report before I give it to my kids because of those unexpected consciences that just may pop up. But don’t think the FDA is always pushing through rush jobs to appease corporate interests. That has never been the way they work, and I don’t think that likely has changed. - JOE

And Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul (D) tweeted, "I feel sorry for Texans that their tax dollars are being wasted on such a genuinely embarrassing lawsuit. Texas is as likely to change the outcome of the Ice Bowl as it is to overturn the will of Wisconsin voters in the 2020 presidential election."
This is the WI AG response to the Texas suit. I may be in MN now, but I grew up in WI and have cheese in my blood when it comes to football. This historical Packer reference was a thing of beauty and provides me great amusement every time I read it.
For those that don't know: Green Bay Packers beat the Dallas Cowboys 21-17 on December 31, 1967 for the NFL championship. Game time temp was 13 below zero. Still over 50,000 fans in attendance. I'd say I was there...but I wasn't born yet! - ANDREA
