What a great episode! Kirk was a fantastic guest, and I (mostly) loved the rundown of 2024 campaign books. Uncharted remains at the bottom of my ranking. I'm currently reading Salena Ziti's "Butler." And I doubt he'd be interested, but I need Halperin's "107 days of Fear and Loathing" like Hunter needs crack.
I think you're exactly right on what Texas Democrats should be doing to build their brand and bring in more voters. Regarding their tactic of leaving the state to delay the redistricting vote, I think you're mistaken. While the optics of arrested legislators being dragged back to Austin would be good for the Democrats, it would be fleeting. Voters have short memories and a gamble on looking mistreated enough to maybe put enough Democrats in the statehouse to undo the redistricting just doesn't seem viable when, in the meantime, there will be even more of a structural tilt towards the Republicans in congress. At least with the delay there is an opportunity for Texas Republicans to get cold feet and back off the redistricting plan.
