Colorado delivered an absolute gobsmacker.
The DSA is here to stay, and it’s not just a New York City phenomenon. Malat Kiros knocked off longtime incumbent Diana DeGette in Colorado’s 1st District, and Manny Rutinel crushed Shannon Bird in Colorado’s 8th. DeGette wasn’t a Blue Dog. She was a pretty progressive Democrat, but not progressive enough. She got rattled by activists, specifically on Israel and Gaza, and a change message was enough to power Kiros to victory. Colorado’s 8th is the bigger story because it’s a Republican-held swing seat, and now Gabe Evans is going to face the more progressive of the two Democratic challengers.
