Anthony Fauci invoked the Fifth Amendment throughout a combative Senate Homeland Security hearing, refusing to answer more than 100 questions about COVID-19’s origins, NIH-funded research, and his pandemic-era diary. Fauci said Rand Paul’s repeated demands for his prosecution made the hearing an effort to entrap him despite President Biden’s pardon. Paul accused Fauci of misleading Congress, released more than 1,000 pages of his diary entries, and announced a committee vote to hold him in contempt. It got uncomfortable as the hearing wore on and people started asking Fauci what day of the week it was and whether he had a folder in front of him.
I think there’s been a criminal lack of looking back at everything that happened during COVID. It was incredibly consequential and should be studied cold. Publicly available documents, emails, and Fauci’s diary seem to show that we funded gain-of-function research and that people didn’t want that to become public after the virus got out.
