That dude is gonna get fired.
In a freewheeling press conference, which was at least in part a way to roll out the news that Trump will be holding the G7 conference next year at his country club in Doral, the big news came when the Ukraine questions started. Mulvaney answered repeated questions about how and why Ukraine's foreign aid was held up before it's eventual delivery.
Here was the money exchange:
"Pressed during the briefing on whether he was describing a quid pro quo with Ukraine, Mulvaney responded that "we do that all the time with foreign policy," and cited the holding back of financial assistance to Northern Triangle countries to affect their immigration policies."
What now?
Unsurprisingly, Mick walked it back a few hours later.
“Let me be clear, there was absolutely no quid pro quo between Ukrainian military aid and any investigation into the 2016 election. The president never told me to withhold any money until the Ukrainians did anything related to the server. The only reasons we were holding the money was because of concern about lack of support from other nations and concerns over corruption."
Not sure exactly how much traction this is going to have going forward but along with the testimony from the diplomatic community, this is not a good week for Team Trump.
Also, that dude is gonna get fired.
